Described by Wynton Marsalis as “The High Priest of Bach,” and by Time Magazine as “The High Priest of Harpsichord”, Anthony Newman continues his fifty plus year career as America’s leading organist, harpsichordist and Bach specialist.
His prodigious recording output includes more than 170 CD’s on such labels as CBS, Sony, Deutsche Grammaphon, and Vox Masterworks.
As a keyboardist, he has performed more than sixty times at Lincoln Center, and has collaborated with may of the greats of music…Kathleen Battle, Itzhak Perlman, Eugenia Zukerman, John Nelson, Jean-Pierre Rampal, James Levine, Leonard Bernstein and many others.
Also a composer, his output includes four symphonies, four concerti, three large choral works and two operas.
He is a Yamaha Artist and a proud alumnus of Young Concert Artists.
A native of Shanghai, China, violinist Lun Li won First Prize in he 2021 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, as well as the Paul A. Fish Memorial prize and the Buffalo Chamber Music Society Prize. He was named Violin Chair of Young Concert Artists.
In 2017, he served as concertmaster of the Pacific Festival Orchestra under conductor Valery Gergiev.
Lun graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, and is now pursuing a master’s degree at the Julliard School.
Risa Hokamura began the violin at the age of three, and at the age of ten she began to capture top prizes in competitions in Japan. She first came to international attention upon winning the Silver Metal at the 2018 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, where she performed the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony, conducted by Leonard Slatkin.
Risa won First Prize in the 2018 Young Concert Artists International Auditions at the age of seventeen, as well as the Tannery Pond Concerts Prize, the Ruth Laredo Award, and the Ronald Asherson Award of YCA. She follows in the distinguished footsteps of her two major violin teachers who also began their careers with Young Concert Artists: Koichiro Harada(founding first violinist of the Tokyo String Quartet) and Mayuko Kamio.
This season Risa will perform in the Morgan Library in New York City. She has previously performed as a soloist with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Muncie Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony, and the East Cast Chamber Orchestra.
Risa studied at the Artist Diploma Program of the Tokyo College of Music, and began her studies this year at the Manhattan School of Music.
Jonathan Swensen first fell on love with the cello upon hearing the Elgar Concerto at the age of six and ultimately made his concerto debut at the age of twenty performing that very piece with Portugal’s Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica.
Winner of the prestigious 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Jonathan also captured First Prizes at the 2018 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, 2018 Khachaturian International Cello Competition, and 2019 Windsor International String Competition. In his native Denmark, he was the recipient of the Jacob Gades Scholarship in 2019, the Leonie Sonning Talent Prize in 2017, and First Prize at the 2016 Danish String Competition.
He made his debuts with the Copenhagen Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra at Windsor Castle and Sun Symphony in Vietnam, and recently performed with Denmark’s Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Jonathan also co-created a classical music festival called Festival & Friends, and was its Artistic Director in 2020.
A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Jonathan Swensen is currently at the New England Conservatory.
Grammy-nominated violist Melissa is an internationally renowned performer whose solo and chamber playing spans all musical genres. Melissa has recently been named the violist of the famed Borromeo String Quartet.
Melissa is the Artistic Director of the Portland Chamber Music Festival in Portland ME, Artist in Residence at Bard College and Conservatory and a founding member and the Executive Director of the East Coast Orchestra (ECCO). As a member of the Enso String Quartet from 2006 until its final season in 2018, Melissa toured nationally and internationally. Lauded by Classical Voice for her “elegant” and “virtuosic” performances, the Massachusetts-born musician won first prize at the Washington International Competition, and is the only violist to win top prizes in consecutive HAMS International viola competitions.
She held the post of Associate Professor of Viola at East Carolina University from 2007-2013, and earned degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the New England Conservatory.
